VISUAL ENGINEER

Powerslide Design Co. is the brainchild of Mike Klay, a musician, outdoorsman, and Seattle-based graphic designer. His collection of screen-printed posters includes promos for bands like M83, Garbage, Sleigh Bells, and more—and beautifully evokes the power of nature and the ferocious energy of music.

Music has always been a driving force behind the ideas Mike puts on paper. Whether it’s the songs he listens to while working, or the Seattle venues he visits to check out local bands, somehow music always winds up guiding his strongest work. The hand-pulled screen print demonstrates his unique style, which celebrates the timeless beauty of nature and music’s amazing capability to inspire, energize, and transform.

Hailing from the South Bay Area in California, Mike Klay currently resides in Seattle where it doesn't rain as often as people may think. He has a Bachelors of Fine Art degree in Graphic Design and a minor in Art History.

Having done posters for theatre productions in school and an infatuation for all things music, it was inevitable that one day a fusion would become a reality. Klay has been making gigposters or "showprints" for local venues such as Chop Suey, The Showbox, Graceland, and The Crocodile Cafe.

In his free time, Klay enjoys strolling in Ballard with his wife, Sandra, son Gavyn and their dog Riley. Every once in a while he will create a new mix for his friends by throwing a couple of records on his turntables. On the weekends, you may spot him on a mountain bike, skateboard, or snowboard. Afterall, the Pacific Northwest is a perfect place to take advantage of the great outdoors.
